Nassau, Bahamas – Today more internet customers consider, among other things, getting online from anywhere in the world. As well as having the accessibility of email service with the latest advances in speed, reliability, storage, document applications, and security. The Bahamas Telecommunications Company Limited, BTC aims to help its Batelnet customers gain access to the best virtual experience in the world through ‘My Connect’ a new email service powered by Google that launched on October 3, 2008.

With this launch, ‘My Connect’ will become the first service in The Bahamas to offer Google’s next-generation email service. The Google platform brings world-wide support and leverage to The Bahamas on a single server better known as “the cloud” and allows BTC customers to join hundreds of millions of advanced users as part of the world’s largest online community.

“Google products and technology are a powerful statement about the importance of reliable features that enable our customers to communicate anywhere and experience more than just email,” says Marlon Johnson, Vice President of Marketing and Sales.

This means existing and new customers will experience an improved interface that provides multiple email benefits from within the Google Apps system. For instance, BTC has taken a quantum leap to secure email data against identity theft and will make the entire email experience safer from support through Google’s server authentication, whereas the competition is currently offering a basic interface, with much simpler security features bundled on the web through an outside third party. Google apps uses powerful technology to effectively scan and block viruses, filter spam, and alert you when you receive phishing messages.

‘My Connect’ is the best value for Small Office and Home Office customers who rely on continued access to high bandwiths for transmitting email data and to sustain the succession of images in a video presentation sent on the information super highway as compared with the unreliable broadband connection that our competition offers its customers which often times slows right down, because its shared, and during peak times creates a bandwith bottleneck.

Support for ‘My Connect’, an integration with more applications make email powered by Google even better for getting things done for businesses. From scheduling meetings to sharing files with business associates, every part of the process is easy. ‘My Connect’ is the most effective way for enterprise customers to confer or chat on cyber space to get things done in a group.

The ‘My Connect’ virtual computing is the only advanced function of real time document saving and sharing capabilities as opposed to the competitor’s limited and basic email service. Any ‘My Connect’ user can access documents saved on the Google server in real time up to seven years, whereas other storage devices may not always be reliable when you need them. File viewing can now reside on the ‘My Connect’ account in storage at your control. From the new email integration, users can easily go to ‘My Connect’ and retrieve a file lost or destroyed on a removable drive just in time for that important meeting presentation.

Unlike the competition, which only has up to 100MG of email storage and lacks the Google apps multifunctional platform, ‘My Connect’ has built in 7 GB of storage space to hold more email information in a single connection network. The Google brand upgrade offers world-class name recognition at a premium.

Customers can now get the benefits of email powered by Google with their existing batelnet.bs account service. ‘My Connect’ multiple features include, Gmail, word processing, spreadsheet, calendar, chat, spam filtering, voice, and language translator bots to name a few. Johnson adds, “This is the best value added email service to help Bahamians stay connected while on the go.”

BTC is working closely with partners such as eSource Capital Technologies in the development and migration to the Google platform. As of September 15 2008, dual delivery plans have been underway to converge the Batelnet system with the Google Apps system. By doing so, all email accounts will automatically be migrated and securely stored in the Google Data Centers outside the Bahamas.

Customers can now go online until November 30, 2008 to access their batelnet.bs account or can upgrade at no additional charge to the new ‘My Connect’ account using easy to follow instructions.

BTC is striving to move email standards forward and over time will introduce additional features such as email to your cell phone.
